With our final frost date now two weeks away, it's time to put my first round of seeds into the ground. There are some plants, like chives or tomatoes, that have been growing indoors for weeks already, but the cool-weather crops get planted directly into the soil now, before the weather gets too warm. Today, I planted:
⦁ Lacinato (Dinosaur) Kale
⦁ Bull's Blood Beets
⦁ Bountiful Bush Beans (soak in warm water for 30 minutes before planting to wake them up)
⦁ Danvers Carrots
⦁ America Spinach
I soaked the soil in the boxes (they drain the excess), planted the seeds, then lightly watered over them again. I'm very interested in how they'll start, especially outside and unprotected. As if plants haven't been doing this since the beginning of time or something.
Also, I took a peek under the soil at my replacement snap peas. They are sprouting very nicely. I expect to see them poking up through the soil on their own within the week.
The strawberries are doing fantastic. I went ahead and replaced one plant with one of my reserve plants that was doing much better. The rain and soil and sun are really feeding the plants. They are all nice and bright green, with new green leaves and fuzz all over the stems. I'm gonna give them a few more days, then I'll take more pics to post.

Minecraft is full of predators, spawning at night to destroy your hard work and strip your rectangular bones of their flesh cubes. There's nothing freakier than hearing a "Ssss" sound, and turning around to find this right behind you:
And that is exactly how I felt when, at my local nursery, I turned around to find this facing me:
This velociraptor replica is easily 6 feet tall and probably 9 feet long, nose to tail. Totally awesome. And she remembered to bring her reusable bag for shopping. Clever girl.
